you can have a black and white marble counter top with out changing your cabinets
If the cabinets are good quality and you like the layout, it would be less expensive to face your cabinets than replace them.
Just buy New Doors............
If the cabinet boxes themselves are in good shape, maybe refacing may be the way to go as it is far less expensive. Then you can spend more of your budget on the counter top, flooring, fixtures, lighting, appliances and hardware. Get multiple bids for both complete remodel and refacing and have each explained in detail. Then decide what is best for you and your budget.
Paint it yourself is least expensive. If the job is too huge have them painted. If you replace the doors, it gets very expensive. They do not make cabinets like that any more and according to my calculations, having them painted costs about the same as replacing (with lower quality). The mess is equal.
