If i bring a cactus from arizona to kansas, will it live outside

Depending on the cactus, ou may have a 50/50 chance. Arizona is hot dry and dusty, if not in the mountains. Kansas may be too cold in winter. All you can do is try. If at all possible, I would take several and pot some and set some out next spring, see if they take and then see what happens the following winter.

Most of the cactus are susceptible to frost and freezing as they absorb and retain water in order to survive in the dry, hot climate. You might have the best results by keeping them in pots (use plant stands or dollies to move them around) and move them into a area, like a garage or basement, where they will not freeze.

FYI... most of the nurseries, here in AZ that specialize in cactus... wrap them in old carpet or heavy cardboard to handle and move them with out being "skewered" You should wear eye protection and gloves any way when handling them.

Prickly pear cactus lives outdoors all winter in New England and blooms profusely in June with an array of yellow flowers....have had mine for years and they spread too!

Hi There...I live in the Phoenix area and have quite a few cacti in my landscape. The sure killer of these gorgeous and varied plants would be frost and/or freezing. We do get some 30 degree temps at night in Dec. and January but it is only for one or two nights. Some people cover the tender tips of their upright-growing cacti with Styrofoam cups when frost is expected. But I think you would be better to make your cactus moveable...bring it inside in your winter months. Good luck.
