I like to give my African violets cold leftover coffee. Every so often they also get some egg shells and coffee grounds.
African Violets need to be watered from the bottom... and I always found that Oxygen plus for African Violets (per directions) worked the best...
I put my 4 inch violets in a teacup saucer, 6 inch in a salad plate, and watered once per week... and they always looked good.
