It is my opinion that heating causes the most dust regardless of the surface it covers. We have oil heat and that is much dirtier than gas heat. Open windows in an area that is sandy would probably also cause a lot of dust/dirt. Louvers have a LOT of surfaces to get dirty. More items out are more things to get dusty. I just gave a pretty thorough clean to a kind of inaccessible corner, but as I am not too bothered by dust, so I also like to clean it as long as it is not too often. Glass table tops are probably easier to clean than wood, but they would show dirt more easily too.

Thank you for your opinion and I must agree with your findings and I know now how to solve 2 of them. Thanks.

Everything is susceptible to dust if it has a horizontal surface. Keep a Swiffer duster handy and it will help with dust anywhere and make the dusting quicker. Our house is really dusty because the four dogs bring in all kinds of dust in on their feet and in their fur from playing out in the yard where they have stomped the grass into submission. Swiffer is my savior.

I agree with that about dust being relentless. I could dust everyday and the next day it looks like nothing has been touched. I can't wait until the snow flies and the dogs won't bring in so much. Maybe I won't have to do it every day for a while.

Blinds are horrible dust catchers, I have them as are glass table...but everything is dependingon where you live and do you have pets. I have 3 dogs, my house is never clean...tile floors are HORRIBLE...I've used EVERYTHING on them and they're never truly clean, plus hard on feet, knees, back. Not my choice here

I will keep my window blinds but I may replace the louvered closet doors. Thanks.

  • When choosing anything for my home, the first question I always ask myself is: "how easy is this (item) to clean? I live in a generally hot and dusty area, have allergies and a boatload of pets. Hard surfaces are easier to clean. Louvered anything is a dust catcher. If I can't easily wash or clean it then I do not buy or make it.
