4 Tips For Spring Veggie Gardening

The Garden Stamp
by The Garden Stamp
Despite a harsh winter here in Zone 7, our Garden Stamp raised bed made it through with the help of an awesome little pop up greenhouse pitched over the raised bed. Here are some tips on how to plan and care for your early spring veggie garden.

1. Prepare to use a cold frame or pop up greenhouse to protect your garden from spring frosts. We're keeping this tent over the salad table until Mother's Day.
2. Moisten your soil or growing media before directly sowing seeds. Watering after might cause them to float. We know the soil is ready if it sticks to the Garden Stamp a bit.
3. Choose cool weather veggie seeds like lettuce (pictured) spinach and radishes.
4. Thin your seedlings by clipping off the unwanted sprouts at soil level. Pulling them out disturbs the veggies you want to keep.

Love the idea of thinning by snipping rather than pulling

Perfect timing for posting this! Are you Zone 7a or 7b? I am in Zone 6 (Toronto); we still have lots of snow and thick ice in patches after a record cold and snowy winter. Planning a veggie garden & building planters will start soon - and your images inspired my hubby who will build the boxes and grow his favourite, kale, in them. Thanks & happy harvesting!
