Its a beautiful piece of wood! If you want to save it, then gently sand down a little to remove old sealant and re stain in color of your choice so he gorgeous wood grain shows through. Then cover with a clear, protectant seal.

The top is gorgeous, but the legs are boring. I would agree with Ficher Luce's comments about it but it needs something different to stand on! You could go with the industrial look pipe legs (copper or brass would look great, I think, or you could browse through some of the pictures here for inspiration. http://www.timbervillage.co.za/catalogue/tables/# That kind of top needs a base to match.

It’s beautiful! I would maybe change the legs. Stone or granite or wood, 2 large orb shapes underneath would complement the rounded live edge of the table top.

Something like this, one at each end used as a stand.

I think it would depend on the style of the rest of the room you plan to have it in. Can you give more information? It's a gorgeous table but the legs, as others have noted, are much to boring and detract from it's loveliness. Sadly they drilled holes all the way through to the top to mount the legs which complicates the renovation some.

  • I am making one of these at the moment, definitely stripe down to clean it all up. I would have an epoxy resin top. And for the legs i am trying to remove the centre of large wood round about 10cm thick laying on the thin side. Hope this makes sense if not let me know and I will try and find a picture.

Hairpin legs would look great on this!

I think that sawing off the old legs & attaching some driftwood legs all cut to the same size would look beautiful & compliment the table top.

Sand off the old varnish. Maybe use a wood stain then depending on the shade of varnish or sealant you use for the finish, be inspired from the natural look of wood as it is stunning.

You had my attention at wooden table! It's a wonderful piece, just needs some TLC. I'd strip the gloss finish off and then sand it down to the raw wood, going with the grain. Hand sand it with the highest # sand paper for a very smooth surface. Wipe clean with a tac cloth. If you are not staining it, then I'd simply apply a wipe on polyurethane in a gloss finish. As far as a base, an old sewing machine stand would look awesome and give it some height, or old huge crate wheels from a salvage company would give it additional beauty. So many options. Best of luck.

I'd sand it and leave it natural. Perhaps a coat of polyurethane to protect it from water stains
