i bought a fabric that goes across windshield which is enclosed in front doors. Don't waste your money. It might keep a very light snow off the windshield, but is no match for ice.
move to Florida. if this is not possible use a solution of 1/3 water to 2/3 rubbing alchohol
My brother works in heating and air and told me about Rubbing Alcohol. If melts ice quick and is cheaper than the deicer powder (witch is the same thing but in powder form). I put a couple of bottles in the windshield fluid and it does the job around the start of winter until spring.
I bought de-icer windshield washer fluid. Get in your car, squirt your windshield with the wiper control and it melts extremely quick and your wipers do the work removing it! Obviously it won't work with heavy snow or if your little squirter thingies are covered or iced up. That would require some cleaning off by you first. Worked great for me when I lived in Michigan. I can't remember the name of it but you can get it at Walmart, auto stores, etc. Its kind of a yellowy glowing color and its just a couple dollars more than regular windshield washer fluid.
