What's the best way to repair a shredded door frame.

Puppy (80 pounds) got stuck in a bathroom while we were away (for less than an hour - he loves to shut doors). Scratched and gnawed the door frame - and did the same to the door frame at the door leading to the main floor from the basement. They're both messes!

Might be cheaper in the long run to just buy a new door and install a kick plate.

I had the same situation... I wound up having to remove that door. It was to... an extra bathroom..that's right inside my back door area. Leaving it exposed wasn't the best idea.. But I'm not a fan of doors! Even to the bathroom that I let the guys use. Only Women Live Here... Lol.... Sooo.... I've looked into buying A Sliding Door... It's a really easy installation...and perfect for this area. Plus it doesn't take up the space of a regular door. Not purchased it yet... But that's my favorite option. Good LUUCK in what you choose

If it's the trim around the door that can be replaced. If it's the door jamb you can fill the gnawing and scratches with either wood putty or Bondo.

Thank you, and I'm delighted that no one suggested I replace the dog!! (grin)

It would be easier to replace the door molding than attempt to refurbish it IMHO.

    Remove the trim and replace.
