How to build an outside free library.

On my travels around town I notice that someone has built a free standing library where people can exchange books at will. It has to be waterproof somehow. The one I saw has several shelves and stands on a pole.
So, my question is there a standard method of constructing this type of all weather library. I would love to put one up in my neighborhood. Of course people have to be honest about exchanging books and returning books when finished. Thanks for your help.

Think dog house or chicken house on stilts... with a glass or acrylic door. Check on Pinterest.com for ideas... Thank You for thinking of your community.

Nothing fancy our expensive I would just use an oversized mailbox or paper box and maybe put a canopy over it. Good luck.

Our son and family got their enclosure from a newspaper. It was one of those free standing enclosures that houses the free magazines, papers etc you see along downtown side walks.

Check with your library to see if your town has a program for these. All the ones here look the same, so maybe the library provides them. Perhaps you can get them to put one up in your yard. We are only about a block from an elementary school and there are quite a number of them in the neighborhood, but only one per block from what I have seen.

Visit your Library and ask questions, if your city has this program, it is approved. Do not do it yourself before consulting zoning restrictions.
