Ideas for color for the exterior of my house

Anna Ibarra on Mar 25, 2014What a nice home, I love the style. I also love the color you picked for the front door. You can paint the shutters cream or white, I wouldn't do cranberry for the shutters, that will be too much. But test a few colors in the same color family. I bought so many samples when I repainted my house. I think maybe this way you get a better idea. Maybe a little darker color then now. The door and shutters repainted will be a huge difference. And paint the ironwork too to match the shutters. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Mar 26, 2014Lovely home! If you want cranberry for the door, I think I would go with a darker brown for the shutters but paint the ironwork on the front porch the same color as the house to make it blend in. The brown and cranberry should work fine if you pick a brown that is a rich tone. Were it me, I would pick a beautiful bright terra cotta and paint the door and shutters all the same color, leaning the ironwork the same color as the brick on house. Just look at how pretty those orange colored flowers look with your house.Helpful Reply

Phillis Raid on Mar 26, 2014Your house is VERY elegant looking. I LOVE the way it looks from top to bottom. That being said if i did change anything at all i would only look at changing the door. Maybe a little darker brown. You said you like the cranberry….that would work for the door also. But you have such elegance going on that no way could i take away from it by painting the shutters. BEAUTIFUL home! Beautiful landscaping. And obtw… imho i think too that the shutters being the same color that they are helps bring out your beautiful landscaping also. To me if the shutters were painted the landscaping would disappear (not entirely) but the eyes would be drawn to the shutters. If i REALLY were so tired of the beige look i might consider off white ….. no darker …..but I'm still digging the colors you have it. It REALLY looks like a professional came in and knew exactly what they were doing choosing the colors whether this took place or not. :)Helpful Reply

Brendalee Perryman on Mar 26, 2014if you want some drama do it! its only paint if you don't like it change it!a red door would be great.. so any variation of that would work great! start with that stand back take good long look .. then decide to add more! shutters ..iron work .. garage door driveway? the options are endless!!Helpful Reply

Barbara R on Mar 26, 2014Everybody, I mean EVERYBODY has a red / burgundy door on their homes (drive around and watch for them...). I would definitely go a dark chocolate brown. I had added photos of homes with your exterior color with dark brown shutters. Also, since the porch supports are "dated" (70's?), leave them the same color as your house, don't want them to stand out any more than they do. Your garage door should match the shutters to make the house "pop". Also...one more thing, paint the window trim the dark brown also so you don't have a contrast there with the shutters and will make the windows look larger (again, a more modern look). Let us know!Helpful Reply

Patty on Mar 27, 2014Benjamin Moore used to have a brown color called Mustang Brown, I don't know if they still do, but they can mix it for you if you like it. I think your home is beautiful and the brown trim would look gorgeous then I would paint the front door in a beautiful rich coral, it would add just the pop of color you need.Helpful Reply

Amy Ogden-Paparone on Mar 27, 2014I'm thinking if you really like cranberry go for it! You're house is really pretty and the cranberry will pop and make it even more so. Remember you have to live in it, so do what makes YOU happy.Helpful Reply
