Here are a few pics of my project: a completely black bathroom transformed. Let me know your thoughts. TMW
completely Black bathroom..walls, moulding, trim, ceiling
Black shower curtain..this is a nice spacious bathroom approx 10 x10..
This bathroom was a nice size but the black paint made it feel like a cave
Updated paint and bright accessories transform the space into a beautiful bright room.
The owner loved Crimson Red--so I used that as my inspiration color to brighten and accent the room
The extra long shower curtain showcased the high ceilings. The miror over the toilet added depth.
A few black and white pictures add life and make the wall space visually interesting.

We painted kitchen walls black once. John Gidding got us to paint a Curb Appeal House black.
  • Hey Tonya, I have not. The project looks great, what a dramatic change.

So when are you going to be able to make it over here to Cali? Your projects are just too cool to keep all the way over there in Georgia! People over here need your guidance! Looks great, See you soon!... ;-)
  • I did Ludachris' basement a couple of years ago. Black faux painted walls and a black ceiling received a rich solid black epoxy flooring application. They brought in red furniture from Italy and some other red accents to bring the room together. It was really elegant once completed.
  • That is a great transformation.

Much better than black. Why did they paint it solid black? Was it use for photography dark room? I have seen one other bath used this way.
  • Black is absolutely stunning in the right place. . . but, this bathroom wasn't one of them! Glad you got it straightened out.

TMW @Murals by Monti,@ Stacey, @Hector, @Miriam,@Wallstreat Studio-thanks guys...I am so happy Behr made their All in One Paint & Primer...it only took 2 coats to completely cover the black! That stuff is amazing! TMW @HudsonDesigns--Good question...I asked my client "what were you going through when you painted this bathroom?" lol...He thought it would be cool at the time, and once he started--unfortunately--he just kept going with the black paint. For the transformation he loved Crimson Red(Alabama fan) so I used the Crimson Red as my inspiration color for the room. TMW

This is a great illustration of what color can do for a room. I loved that you kept the original tile on the wall and floor and yet used other colors to make the room seem lighter, brighter and more fun and relaxing to be in. Great Work!
  • Paul M Paul M on Jul 14, 2011
Yes but even with good primer it took a couple of coats more than usual to make it all go away. Of course I was using a light color so it was not that easy to get it right. I did two coats of Kilz water based interior primer and then three coats of my paint color. It looked good when I was done but it was much more work than I thought it would be.
  • Cheryl F Cheryl F on Jul 14, 2011
Wow, Tonya - that was one DARK bathroom! It looks so much better, even though I'm sure it took several coats of primer and paint to get rid of the dark. I agree there are times when black adds a wonderful look, but this little bathroom was not a good candidate :) What you did looks much better.

@Cas S ---I am VERY happy they DID NOT install a black toilet...the bathroom may have imploded at that point :-) @Julie U--The difference is amazing you can truly see how big the room IS now..with the black paint created a vacuum and made the room appear much smaller it also minimized some of the interesting design points like the checkered tile flooring. @Vicki @Donna--Thanks! @PreetiM--Thanks! The baseboards in this bathroom are fabulous the ceilings are 12 ft and the moldings are 9inches...it gives a lot of leeway for decor. @Nettie Reaves--Thanks! The devil was in the details! However once the black paint was gone the room totally opened up and we could really see the finish line for the project. @Judy D @Lynn Lewis @Roy W--Thank you I love projects where the difference in the before and after is like night and day! This one was also a lot of fun!

why, oh why, would anyone use that much black paint in one room? It looks so much better now!
  • TonyaM Williams TonyaM Williams on Oct 17, 2011
@jenniH--my client said once he started painting and realized his mistake in color choice he felt he was too far along to go back so he continued painting! ugh!!! But thankfully we were able to get this room back to a wonderful wall color with accent pieces showcasing the high ceilings and other features. Thanks for your comments. TMW

I would definitely paint with Kilz primer base coat (water base). It must have been like a coffin in there.
  • Penny Penny on Jul 16, 2014
to be completely honest, i like the black..only, i would have made the walls surrounding the toilet a galley wall....
