Need help on what to do with paneling in main floor A-frame side walls

Just bought a 1980's A-frame and beyond obvious decorating issues, side walls are done in paneling while ceiling is drywall. My problem besides ugly paneling is built in cabinets on both long sides of A-frame below paneling which match paneling and since cabinets are well made and supply loads of much needed storage they will remain. The real issue is what to do with paneling. Any ideas?

I've wallpapered over a lot of old, dark wood paneling with no primer, just cleaned it really well. The paste fills the grooves. It turns out beautifully! Also painted, but it takes several coats.

What is under that paneling? A 1980's home should have drywall. Worst case would be NOTHING! If there is drywall, you could take the paneling down, patch and paint. An easy fix is to prime and paint the paneling.
