Desk Makeover With Chalk Paint® #powerofpaint
I had never used Chalk Paint® before and I really didn't believe any paint could cover what I'd done to this desk a few years ago with some "oops" paint. However, with no stripping, sanding or priming, 3 coats later I had a pristine white desk, calling for a little design fun. I wanted something fun. Different. Fresh. Something that would brighten my day each time I sat down at the desk. Some oversized ornate swirls with a contemporary vibe were just the ticket. Afterwards, the desk was sealed with three coats of clear wax.
My father built this desk for my older brothers before I was born. That makes it . . . well over 50 years old.
The first coat of Chalk Paint®, applied with a roller. Good coverage, but I switched to a brush for the final two coats.
I drew some oversized scrolls on tracing paper to the scale of the top and one side of the desk.
With graphite paper underneath my pattern, I used a stylus to trace the outline.
The scrolls were filled in with Provence Chalk Paint®.
Pure White Chalk Paint® was used for detailing the swirls and scrolls.
To balance the large graphics on the left side and top of the desk, I painted a simple scroll with a few details on the right panel of drawers.
