What's the purple flower? -
Ruellia -
I love Ruellia! Finally, this year I was able to find enough of this beautiful and tough plant. It reminds of of the old Timex commercials ~ "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking". -
l've had my eye on that canna, didn't realize it would take standing water. -
If the ruellia is in standing water I'll have to join FGDL's accolades....I had no idea it could take standing water. A friend has a patch that has doubled in size around her mailbox. It could be a good companion plant for iris and Byzantine glads, which bloom and then do nothing for the rest of the summer. -
What are the other 2 plants Erica? I love how all the plants balance out so well in the container. -
According to my notes (I toook this photo at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the plants are Canna 'Pretoria,' Ruellia brittonia (purple flowers), Nelumbo (a dwarf lotus) and water clover (Marislea mutica) they have lots of great container gardens at ABG -
water clover may be in there somewhere but the fine-leaved green stuff spilling over the edge is parrot's feather -
Thanks Walter. I will recheck my notes. The pot is very full. I'll post a few more combinations too! -
