Cherry tree didn't bloom this year

I have a 5 year old cherry tree that failed to bloom this year. What could have been the problem?

  • Was the winter especially harsh for you in NC? It was here and sometimes the buds get damaged in a deep freeze especially if there were beautiful warm days followed by deep freezes. Did you prune it last year? If you prune a tree or bush at the wrong time you will also cut off developing buds. If the tree is healthy and sprouting leaves, I would not worry yet but if you see signs of cracking or dying limbs, then investigate to see if something is attacking it (I had voles eat mine-the roots- a couple years back). Good luck. Happy gardening

@The Garden Frog with C Renee Thanks Renee. It is a younger tree and not well protected. It already has leaves so assume the exceptionally cold nights this past winter affected the blooms.
