I dinged up the wood on the arm of my office chair by scrapping it ever so slightly on a sharp edge underneath tmy desk. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

  • Pick up a matching stain pen @ a home store and a spray can of (it looks like gloss) polyurethane....stain, let it dry then light coats of poly to build it up.

You can try using shoe polish to cover up the dings. Then spray with polyurethane.

How about a wood filler? Your damage does not look too bad, so even a crayon close to the color or your chair may disguise the ding.

@Liliana Wells it is only the surface so the crayon may work, but it would be hard to match the color.

and after that....is there any way to lower the chair just a hair?

@PAM yep. I already lowered it after making the initial marks. Too bad I didn't realize it right away!

break open a walnut and use the nut meat to rub over area. If it takes on the same color as chair, wipe and go over lightly with clear nail polish.

@Tyler..yes I have always used this on most any wood for scratches and on "rings" left on wood from drink glasses. The nut oil ( use fresh nuts not old..too dry) works wonderfully. Any nut will do....try it on something else when in doubt...that goes for ANY suggestions you may recieve...try on something else first. Let me know how it goes...Jan

You might try a wet rag and iron it over the scratch to see if you can raise the grain. I saved a wooden bowl I gouged that way.
