One or Two colors? Finished photos uploaded

I am getting ready to paint this piece. I thought at first I would paint and put hardware on the sides (had seen this on hometalk). However, the side pcs prevented this from happening. Now I am trying to determine if maybe contrasting colors of some sort would look good. Haven't really decided yet on a place or use. Think this was someone's wood school project. LOL Any Ideas?
THANK YOU ALL for your suggestions
I used my "beach look" blend for the bottom base and rack portion.
Went with the Color Block for the geometric design. Solid colors of White and Blue.
Solid color for the top that matched the side supports.

Perfect for holding the remote controls and a lamp. For myself, I like one colour, less busy. Looks good and sturdy :)

Wonder how it would look with the bottom and sides painted but sand and stain the top a darker brown?

I would stain the top and paint the rest. It's a great piece, don't forget to show it when you've finished it please!! :D

I would probably paint it one color and then do some kind of a simple mosaic design on the top or around the edges.

This is a great little magazine-holder table! Paint it white, add your magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, sit a vining potted plant on top and place by your favorite reading chair!
  • The geometrical shape in the profile of the piece is interesting. Perhaps you can build on it... Maintain the natural wood surface and the two strips of wood on the side which join the two pieces together. Personally, I would paint the container on the bottom its own colour and the remainder different. The colours of course, would depend on which hue of stain you may select for the surface. Black and white is always sharp but there are so many choices! Perhaps choose a side to be the front and apply something personal like a stencil or monogram? Have fun with it!

@Tana, Little Red Bag Productions Thanks Tana, I guess I wasn't looking at shape in the beginning. I did my piece and used some of the suggestions here and will do a post. Maybe call it GeoMagRack.

Maybe complementary colors, example: green and blue, yellow and green. lavender or lilac and light to medium blue, etc..I'm an artist, so color is a must for me, neutrals not that much..love to see your photos when its completed!

I am a huge fan of two tone pieces! I just painted a desk gray and white. Here is a pic of my desk ( http://blissfullychicdiy.blogspot.com/2014/03/my-new-desk.html ). But I think it really depends on what else you have going on in the room its going in. :)
