Everything Has Potential #BudgetUpgrade

When I purchased my old home I had to see past what it looked like and see the potential. This particular room was lined with old barn wood and had a built in bunkbed, closet and desk of sorts. The room was long and narrow and had one big window in it. This is the picture I took before the project started. Several projects came out of this room and you will see.
The built in bunkbed, desk and closet.
I decided to start ripping the barn wood off the walls, which was old plaster and found this. My "wood room" then became my zebra room. Apparently someone sprayed black paint in between the pieces of barn wood?
The zebra room.
Once all the wood was removed, the drywall went up, painted and the following picture is of the same wall as the first picture. I reused an old oak door that was found in the basement for the shelf above my desk.
Finished with oak door shelf.
At the other end of the room was this is the window which looked out into the back yard but was so high up, you couldn't see out of it. SO, it was time to take it out.
It gave me such joy to see this window GONE! I had located a set of french doors on Craig's list from an old historic home and knew I had just the place for them. They were installed on the same wall as the window and it let in the light!!! AND I could see the backyard and the patio.
After the french doors were installed.
Of course I had to include how they look from the back yard. It is so nice to be able to access the backyard from this side of the house. This summer will be to put in permanent steps.
So, how many people are wondering about all the barn wood that was removed from the room? Well, that brings me to my other project. My son built me a lovely garden shed that is snuggled in the back of my yard. It was built against the already existing yard fence and is aprox 6x20 ft. I had picked up the windows and door at garage sales.
My neighbor brought a piece of tin leftover from one of his buildings out in the country for the roof.
This picture was taken two summers ago and now the ground is full of plants and is alive with color in the summer.
This is the ultimate reuse recycle picture. The arbor was in the front yard when I bought the house. The swing is from old family friends, The old metal chairs were taken out of a dump pile, I wonder how many families had owned the wash tub I used before I got it. The rocks were all over the yard so I used them for borders and the bricks were found in the basement when I moved in.

All of these projects came from the "wood room" in my historic 100 year old home.

It has been so fun to have had an idea in my mind and then make it happen reusing recycled materials at very little expense.
