Toilet in the shower?

Something I don't see everyday....This is a new client. He would like to remodel this bathroom in a home he recently purchased. Any guesses as to why he wants to modify this bathroom? I couldn't help but laugh when I saw this, I thought you all might enjoy the photos.

When I designed yatchs & houseboats I saw a sink and a head (toilet) in a shower in the captain's quarters in an old boat, it was kinda cool.

Perhaps someone did not fully comprehend the nature of a bidet?

I love that idea. In one of our motorhomes, we had a combo toilet, shower and sink. When ever I took a shower, I cleaned the whole bathroom! Now, when we remodel our bathroom in the house, I want to make it water tight, add a spray hose by the toilet and a drain so that I can clean the toilet, (especially) with cleaner and a hose! Why don't more people like this idea!!! LOL!

Curious - did your new client say why the previous homeowners added the toilet in the bathroom?

Haven't seen a setup like that since my deployment to Saudi Arabia during the the first gulf war. The compound where we were staged had a 2-in-1 only this is much much much nicer....they have a toilet. Lol

I was going to ask if the toilet was just 'placed' there, but no...you got the actual installation shot! Wowww....I'm interested in why the previous owner did this. I guess he/she really wanted to save time ~

I think this is more common overseas...but it always kind of creeps me out. It would have to be a very LARGE shower for me to fully appreciate that. I do like Audrey's idea of just hosing everything down - I used to say that about my kitchen floors when we lived with that beautiful SC clay!

This is becoming more popular is some "tiny" home designs....the entire bath room becomes the shower. But here space does not seem to be the limiting factor.

Thats a new one to me. Im curious if they vented the toilet properly, or just tied it into the existing shower drain.

Thanks for all the comments! The sink, and shower/toilet area were a closet before the remodel. The current homeowner didn't find out why they did it this way, wish he did! I've seen entire bathrooms with a drain in the center, so I can understand the concept, but this just struck me funny.

I really like the "multitasking" comment, I laughed when I read it! Same thing with the "mother of boys"...really funny, and as a father of 5 boys, I completely understand why this would be a good thing!

    Thanks everyone for commenting!

I suppose there's an upside to this set-up...you can shower and do your duties at the same time!

I think its awesome (and funny too!) I bet the previous homeowners did it for mere lack of space and cost. No denying it works ... hahaha

Yes! The old Minnie Winnie motor home I am in the process of restoring has a sink and toilet in the shower - certainly does save space!

Well now, this is one SURE way that no one is going to flush the toilet and fry you in hot water while you are in the shower.

Maybe it's a novel way to have a "wet bathroom," one where the shower is open to the rest of the bathroom. If you can't open up the shower, just move the rest of the bathroom inside it!

I've seen bathrooms on Househunters Int'l that had the whole [tiny] bathroom open to the shower. But this seems too small to really use the shower- do you have to straddle (or sit on) the toilet to shower? I guess if you have incontinence problems, it could be handy....

Don't think I've seen comment yet... Just think of how easy it would be to clean the toilet itself :D

It would have come in handy when I was pregnant with the twins and I couldn't stand and I couldn't get up from the tub. The more I look at it the more I like it I think. So when I get old and have a hard time standing and I still want to take care of myself, I can do it all in one spot. It can even be made wheelchair accessible. The only nuisance would be to have to dry the seat after each shower. I hate to sit on a wet toilet seat ;0) and I have been in open bathrooms where water was ...»
running everywhere. It was annoying. For the right reason to use in special need I think it is a good idea.
