Should the Ideal Backyard Oasis Include a Spa?

For these Long Island Hot Tub clients, their backyard upgrade definitely had to include a spa -- a place to rejuvenate even during the cold months when the pool was shut down. However, including everything on their wish list was a challenge, given that the site had many constraints.
In the end, it was the property’s biggest challenge -- its undulating hillside -- that inspired Long Island Hot Tub, in cooperation with The Deck and Patio Company, to include a spa as part of a larger “amphitheater-like” environment and cause the project to win several prestigious awards.
Along with spa, pool, dramatic cascading waterfalls, and multiple patios, a Techno-bloc Quarry Stone wall was located at the main patio, to not only serve as an aesthetic feature to hide the grade changes to the pool area, but to also serve as a seat-wall. Long Island boulders were used throughout the landscape to support the remaining surrounding grades and also to provide visual impact.
A simple touch of a button, whether with a remote control or by dialing into the automation computer through the internet from your office, and these homeowners can turn up the heat in the pool or spa, activate the waterfalls, or program the in-pool cleaning system, lighting, etc.
Custom In-ground Raised Spa
The custom in-ground raised spa, with 4-foot-high cascading waterfall spills into the pool, fits beautifully with the patio, pool, and additional water feature - a separate 6-foot-high waterfall flowing into the pool.
Landscaping For a Spa
Because the spa is used in cold months, it was imperative to soften “year round” the impact of so much rock and pavers in the design. This was done by scalloping plants into the hillside in a wide variety of colorful perennial, deciduous and evergreen plant material.
Spa Patios
A unique combination of tumbled pavers, natural rock steps, Long Island boulders and retaining wall systems helped create a supple transition from the house, pool and spa patios and captured the similarities in the earth tones throughout.
Landscaping In Different Elevations
To design and build a 22’ x 42’ freeform pool and raised spa, with water falls nestled into a 20-foot-hillside, and incorporate multiple patios at different elevations with landscaping, requires more than just lines on paper.
3-D Design Technology
Utilizing state-of-the-art design technology provides clients with computerized 3-D animation of their project. This presentation format aids them in understanding the design, saving them from guessing what the project will look like.
