If you have them, be sure to spray ASAP - before they stop feeding and retreat into the bag, away from pesticides.

Leyland cypress isn't a member of the arborvitae or cedar family...it's a cypress. All you mention are called needled evergreens however. Bagworms love them all.

how would you know that you have bag worms? what would the look like? would you know just from looking at the plant?

ARi- The bag worm cocoon mimics a seed pod, so if you are casually looking you won't really notice them until you have browning areas on the tree or shrub. My suggestion is to pull some more pics via internet search and get an good idea of what they can look like, then go out and inspect your coniferous trees and shrubs. There will also be movement, so it is easier to detect on a non-windy day. You can actually hear them if you have a really bad infestation, sort of a rustling sound.
