What is the best way to sand spindles in a chair?

My take and chairs are from the 1980s. My hubby added polyurethane before I met him in 2000. I've stripped all of it, then stained some of it and applied chalk paint to parts of it. The spindles have chalk paint on them. The problem is that I having trouble sanding the spindles. Any suggestions?

I use the mesh sandpaper for this Shirley. It's more flexible than paper back sandpaper and does the job well. Sandpaper sponges can work also.

I have some of the song ones. They help. I'm not familiar with the mesh type. I guess I'll Ask at Home Depot.

Thanks Becky. I'm anxious to try it. I live in an rural area, so I'll have to plan a trip to the city!

  We are list makers and it helps. We have a huge pantry and we keep it stocked. Luckily, our little town has a grocery store. It's limited, but great when you are in a crunch. It's only 3.5 miles. And we are so thankful for our Dollar Store. It has come in handy so many times. But I love the country life. We moved here from the its in 2007. We've never regretted it.

  @Shirley803 we started building in February of '02 and moved in October '03. We too love the country life. We are actually in a country neighborhood with small acreages about three miles outside the small town of Blair. We do have a small Walmart and Hometown Shopko along with a Dollar General, two grocery stores, a small lumber yard and a nice downtown area with three thrift stores, including a Goodwill so we've allot close by. We usually go into the city each weekend for things we can't get locally.

  @Z We moved here in 07. There was a mobile home on the property. We put all our belongings in it for storage and used the washer/dryer. We lived in our RV. We moved in in 08. We built a bandominium. It turned out very nice. We love it!

  @Shirley803 I had never heard of that term before so I had to Google it. Is it the same as a barnominium? A metal structure meant for open storage that has been turned into living space? I just mentioned in another thread that we were looking into building an out building and stick built is so expensive. We need to get down to business and look more into metal buildings. They are not what they used to be. I'd love it if you shared your home here on Hometalk. I'm sure many others would be very interested too.

The pads shown can go on sanders using a Velcro type holder. But you can purchase these same pads that look much like the scrubby cleaners you use in your sink. Normally they come in three packs, but they do sell contractor size boxes. You can get these in several different abrasive sizes much like sand paper. What is good about them, you can wet sand as well as dry sand with them and you can wash them out to extend their life and usage.
