The Great Divide: Installing the Living Room Transition Molding

It should be a simple install, but whoever installed this floor (me) didn't do such a good job keeping the edge uniform. Slopping that godawful adhesive at a rapid pace, made me sloppy on that last detail. It was left with this ragged edge. I had an adventure dealing with that before I could get the molding installed. This should have been a 15 minute job, but it took hours. The whole adventure is in the blog post:
T-molding is a transition strip molding that bridges the gap between two flooring materials of similar height.
I had a fun time burning through blades in the tough bamboo.
I got creative on re-using burned out cutting blades. Some times I just don't want to run out to the hardware store every 10 minutes.
Chipping, hacking, and prying the cut-off bamboo and dried adhesive out of the slot.
I like to mark for a miter saw cut with a utility knife. Precision!
Using silicone to adhere the strip.
....and finally it goes into place!

Jeanette S on Apr 09, 2014When we put down real hardwood in the living and dining rooms, we used laminate in the kitchen. I did not want a piece of raised wood at the doorways so we used a tile border. Love it. When we extended the floor from the den through the rest of the downstairs, we could not match the same manufacturer some 6 years later. We again put down this same patter of tile. It has been down for bout 6 years, we have had no problems with it (put it down with epoxy and then grouted) and we have a completely flat floor.
