My Old Funky Kitchen Into a New French Country Space

We started with this.....
And transformed it to this.....using small cupboards as shadow boxes!
Cut some squares in different sizes for a "shingle" look and cozy cottagey feel!
Vinyl flooring becomes hard wood with recycled pallets!
Different woods offer different colors and textures to this floor!
Getting rid of the open area to my laundry room, we used an old screen door embellished with rabbit wire, burlap, and thin panel sheeting. Barnwood shelving created a place for my roosters and offered a bit of color to the barnwood half walls!
My husband built this hutch like cabinet out of pallet wood and two old cupboard doors. Painting the cabinets white sure brightened things up!
My piano roll cabinet is a perfect fit for this area! It also provides some functional storage!

Love the floor! Did you have to sand the boards? And if so, did you do it before or after they were installed? Or does the poly take care of the roughness? (the pallets we have are very rough) I'm thinking of doing this in a bedroom/sitting area so am thinking of the bare feet....
  • Thank you Janet! I did a light sanding before staining, I still have another coat of stain and poly to do! I love the floor and it adds so much character to my home!
