My Samsung fridge is just 6 years old.

The side of the freezer door gets very hot and I think that it is the reason why the icemaker is not making ice. The heat has caused a crack in the inside of the freezer door. Is this an easy fix or should I just get another fridge? If I decide to fix it, how much should I expect to spend?

Hi Donna, Let me tell you what I found out. My Kenmore has a heating core to auto defrost fast. It has caused problems with my unit. If it stops working the line to the ice maker freezes up.

First you need to find out why it is getting hot. Honestly I have never heard of such a problem.

I'm not sure if newer refrigerators need to be dusted in the back or if they are entirely enclosed now. But you should make sure there is nothing obstructing the area around the fan. I have no idea how much it would cost to fix, but it's worth calling a local appliance store and asking them this question.

    Silicone will fix the crack.

Silicone will fix the crack. I would call the company this is a odd thing for the refrigerator to do, so don't fix anything until you call them. Sometimes companies will work with customers especially if they want to keep them and it is no fault if their own but the appliances fault. For that crack to have been created it would have to get very hot, which almost sound likes the motor is hot or a short is causing it.
