BEST OF BOTH WORLDS . . . a Mantel Makeover.

A full mantel was added to this keeping room remodel. It was intended to make the mantel a focal point of the space. It soon became too much of a good thing because it took over the space. With the use of decorative painting, we gave it the illusion of 2 separate features. . . an antique mantel surrounded by aged reclaimed wood. The warm color tones make it more consistent with the style and in scale with the rest of the room.See the whole story at: http://kasswilson.com/category/architectural-detail/
Painting it to appear as 2 individual elements made it more in style and in better proportion with the room.
It began as all white.
The mantel was painted to look like old wood. The surrounding frame looks like old barnwood.
Another view of the distressed paneling.

What a change! Very nice work. I'd like to know what kind of leather recliner you have...I've been looking for one just like that! Really like your concept and execution.
