This is an easy (and aesthetically pleasing) DIY project to help conceal clutter, wiring, or anything else you want to cover up in your bookshelves or media center. These fabric-covered panels are made with inexpensive foamcore and a few simple tools, and we used them to hide the DVD collection in our built-in bookcase. It's a custom look for any furniture piece, and it's also easy to remove when you need to access whatever is behind it. Read our blog post (below) for the how-to tutorial and lots more photos!

I was looking for a way to hide the DVD collection we’d stored on our built-in bookcase. My solution: fabric-wrapped foamcore covers!
Easy DIY Fabric Panels | Rather Square
For this project, you'll need just a few tools and materials: (1) Enough 1/4″-thick foamcore to cover the open area of the shelves (2) Enough fabric to cover the foam core (with a few extra inches for wraparound) (3) Heavy-duty masking tape (4) Scissors (5) Utility knife (6) Measuring tape or ruler
Measure the height and width of the shelves you'd like to cover. Cut the foamcore to fit, place the cut pieces on top of your fabric, and trim the fabric around the foamcore shape (leaving a few inches for wraparound).
Stretch the fabric around the edges of the foamcore piece and secure with masking tape.
And that's it! Here is what the back and front of your finished piece should look like.

Place the panels into your shelves. This is a really cost-effective and easy DIY project, and a great way to add a fun pattern to a bookcase.

That's what I thought.....how about making a small pull tab out of the same fabric to easily pull it off, when needed, or adding some kind of decorative "knob" in the center for the same purpose? Great idea, you had, BTW!!

I need to refresh look in my living room and master bedroom by painting the lamps , BUT how do I change the color of the lamp shades? Any ideas, willing to try.

What happens when the masking tape gets old? All masking tape looses its stickiness and gets dry. Like the idea I don’t think masking tape would work for me. I defenately would need a tab or a small knob. Great DIY idea.
