My kitchen linoleum is cut, scratched & stained. It looks nasty & I've tried everything I can think of to clean it. Anybody have a.solution short of ripping out?

There are a couple things you might try to clean it. #1. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/clean/floors/how-to-easily-clean-grimy-vinyl-floors-912807. #2. Buy a steam mop. A couple months ago, I bought a Bissell Powerfresh steam mop and oh my gosh, that thing is FABULOUS! I could not believe how dirty the mop pad was after mopping the vinyl floor in my laundry room with it! I did a lot of research on steam mops before buying and this one seemed to have an unusually high customer satisfaction rating--almost perfect 5 stars. Right now it is the cheapest I've ever seen it on Amazon, or anywhere. (I bought one for my daughter from Amazon and paid $85. I bought mine from the Walmart website and also paid $85.00.) http://www.amazon.com/BISSELL-Powerfresh-Steam-White-1940/dp/B0091YYUAM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1393908490&sr=8-2&keywords=bissell+powerfresh Of course, neither of the above two suggestions are going to fix the cuts and scratches. Perhaps you can fill them in with some type of filler and paint the floor. Here are some tutorials on HomeTalk: http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=paint+vinyl+floors I'm sure you could find others by doing an internet search.

@Anita, like Shari, I love my Bissell Streamer. Mine is a different model which I've had for about nine years now and it's still working perfectly. I'm not sure how well it would work on a painted floor as the steam could very well release the adhesion of the paint from the linoleum. I know this is a possibility because whenever we paint and happen to get drops of paint on our floors the steam mop releases them. I'm going to tag Gail at @My Repurposed Life. She's painted her kitchen floor and she might have some ideas to help you out.

I painted my kitchen floor 3-4 years ago and I still love it. I have a new steam mop from @HomeRight and it does a great job on my floor. @Anita if you hate your floor, you really have nothing to lose, that's why I did mine. :)

Seems like you are at a point that whatever you do it will be better! Go for it! Paint that floor!

I agree-paint it. I use an eraser sponge on mine. It gets stuff my other cleaners including the steam one, leaves. One day I may just convince DH to paint mine. I love the light color mine is though. Mostly I want the shine back.

I just moved from a home that had white and blue linoleum. The way that I cleaned it was with an eraser sponge, but you have to get on your hands and knees to clean it. They are great getting into all the little crevices that come with linoleum. Good luck!
