Tutorial: Replacing Damaged Cane

Replacing a damaged cane seat is not as difficult as one may think! So when you see a nice piece of furniture with a damaged cane seat or back, bargain down the price and repair it! Cane can be purchased in sheets. Then all you need is the spine, some wedges, glue and an hour or so! I have replaced cane many times and it always amazes me just how easy it is. A wonderful way to save a nice piece of furniture from the dump. Visit my blog for a full tutorial!
All is not lost!
The cane sheet and spine have been soaked in water to make them more pliable.

This might be easy for some people to do but seems a little too difficult for me. I have an old Bentwood rocker which had damaged cane on the seat. I removed it and was thinking about gluing a piece of plywood on it, then staining the plywood. I already have a piece cut to size. Problem the whole rocker needs to be refinished first and I don 't think I can do it. I planned to put a cushion on the seat but haven't done anything with it yet. It's been sitting in my garage a few years already. Wish I had someone to help me.

@Jane R. I have 2 bentwood rockers in my inventory of "Stuff" and the caning is perfect. I plan on painting them pastel for baby's rooms. I really like those rockers and hope I can prettify them enough to sell.

Sheet cane is also perfect to put into cupboard doors either kitchen or bathroom to allow air to breathe and keep out fungus
