I would go to a pet shop...no tone of the large chains but a true pet supply and talk to the owner. Or google your question as well as getting good advise from HT'ers. Good luck.
  • If your dogs are urinating in the house, then you need to go back to the basics of house training. You also need to neutralize the odors in the floor as well and white vinegar does this. urine actually eats away at the finish so short of refinishing the floors you may have to try some of the products on the market in the stain aisle (Minwax has great products) to see if you can fix the floor. You may also need to check with the vet to make sure your pet does not have any health problems but usually this is a behavior problem if it has gone on for some time. Rewards for the dogs going outside and doing their business is a great start. Crate training and keeping them out of the area they are using may also be in your best interest. Good luck

If I had a fenced in area , that's where they'd be doing their business ..Renee is right again on what she has shared !! I always find her comments to be very informative and right on time ..Do what she advises ... :)

Dogs especially male dogs will keep remarking a area. They have belly bands for dogs. It isn't cruel and it will help train them. Wood floors the dogs urine will eat way at the finish. If it is small area's re sand it and refinish it. You might be able to use stainless steel if the spots aren't to large. If they are large area's you will need to sand the whole floor down. Once you re-seal it the dogs won't be keep marking that area. The sealer should seal the smell. If the floors are really bad I would suggest sanding the whole floor down, staining and sealing it. I use a gate actually a double gate to prevent any of my dogs from having access to any of my wood floors. Now I have a puppy that ate a hole in my brand new leather couch...until she is trained they are kept in a laundry room....which is really large with access to the dog door and food. They can only come in my living room if I am in there. Crude..my husband was furious. But I will get a new couch after the new puppy is trained. Funny how that works!

We have a visiting male dog who likes to leave his mark around our house. I sewed up a bunch of belly bands for his visits and they work like a charm! He doesn't mind them a bit and it means a worry-free visit for all of us. When I had to, I cleaned up our hardwood floors with vinegar and water. It seems to work better or at least as well as anything on the market.

My son & daughter-in law had a terrible stinky problem with the dog peeing right in front of the door on wood parquet. We laid newspaper ( 6 pages deep or so) on the problem and slowly saturated it with straight white vinegar. When those papers dried we repeated the process, over and over, until we could no longer smell dog pee. Then we used hydrogen peroxide ( recommended by the vet) to eat away any organic smell/material, and soaked once more with the vinegar/paper. This process took three days and upset the dog's pee-on-the-door-floor habit cycle. He hated the vinegar! He was put on a strict potty cycle, going out more often than before. Everybody happy! ***When my daughter-in-law noticed him sniffing around the door one day she quickly soaked a kitchen sponge with vinegar and hid it in the potted plant by the door. Dog quickly found something else to think about!***

vinegar will clean just about anything in & around your home.... makes a great drain cleaner too. Drain cleaner: 1/2 cup of both vinegar & baking soda put the baking soda in the drain first. wait about 20 - 30 minutes & flush with hot water
