Nautical Decor for a Summer Porch

When decorating a space with a certain theme, in this instance, it's nautical, the important thing is to convey the idea without becoming too tacky and overdone.
Our summer porch features red clapboard walls (the color of our home-this is an exterior wall), an antique pine commode decorated with nautical items. On the walls is a collection of nautically-inspired art, including this majestic wooden whale painting. It was hand-painted on a plank, then distressed to give it an aged appearance.
I love mixing the old and new when creating a vignette. The candle sconce and large mason jar wrapped in hemp rope were from HomeGoods, the bowl was hand-thrown pottery. I added one simple starfish for a touch of whimsy.
My favorite piece is the painted whale sign. It is quite large and becomes a beautiful focal point for the space. To find out more, click the blog link below!

You hit the nail on the head....it's not tacky or overdone. I love your artwork - especially the red striped frame. You have a good eye for putting things together!
