Reclaimed, Pallet Wood Shelf
I love reclaimed wood and created this useful shelf with pallet wood and reclaimed oak. It is a simple build and can be used in so many places! Check out the pictures to see how to build it and all about my paint technique.
Great in a bathroom for towels & toiletries.
I start with a scrubby, chip brush. I use the same brush for all colors, not cleaning it in between.
I start with the lightest color--usually yellow. I do not sand the boards before painting. If the board is going to need a lot of sanding, I use a bit more paint.
Then lay you boards out, measure the width of your shelf and cut two horizontal pieces. I used reclaimed oak. The bottom piece has a wider width for hooks. Secure these by drilling through the back of the colored pallet wood. Put two screws in each board.
Next build a three sided box.
Add a bottom, but no back.
Secure the box with screws from the back into the sides of the box. You can also screw down through the bottom of the box into the horiziontal oak piece.
I took a rectangle and randomly cut it in half at 45 degree angles.
I added wooden spools for "hooks". Before adding these, I sanded and waxed the shelf with a mixture of coconut oil and Annie Sloan dark wax.
This is great in an entry--a place for mail, mittens, keys and sunglasses.
Spool hooks are great for coats and purses, towels, and tools.
Or use it in the kitchen--a spot for wine, cookbooks, aprons.
Or hang it on a fence to add some color and use it to organize your planting supplies.
Had to show these tiny, muddy rainy boots I plant in every spring.
