New Look for an Old Desk and Chair

An old rough desk and a dirty Thomasville chair needed a new fresh look. With some painting, sanding, new fabric, and different hardware they now have a new colorful look.
I found the desk at a yard sale late in the day. As I drove by the desk caught my attention so I pulled over. I thought it was unusual in its design and might have a second life if given a little work. The desk was sanded and any repairs it needed were done. The original hardware was big, gold, and in bad shape so they didn't make it back on this piece. After several coats of white paint, the inside of the desk drawers and top compartment were painted blue. A clear topcoat was applied and new blue hardware installed. I love the surprise color when the drawers and top are opened. The desk looks clean and fresh now.
The chair was a thrift store find for $3.00. It was sturdy but a dirty white and had a nasty upholstery job over the original fabric. Someone had used tacks to hold the fabric on the chair and didn't bother to trim the fabric around the tack line so the fabric hung down on the bottom of the chair. Sorry I forgot to take a before photo of the chair. The original label from Thomasville was still on the bottom of the chair. First it was cleaned well and the chair seat taken off. Then it was sanded and any repairs taken care of. It received a fresh coat of paint and a clear topcoat. I reupholstered the seat with fun home dec fabric and put it back on the chair. I left the original Thomasville tag on the bottom of the chair since I love their furniture. New fresh look for this old dirty chair.
An old desk with colorful knobs on white paint. This old chair has a Thomasville tag under it and was a great find. It has a new look with new fabric and paint.
The desk before was not much to look at. With some sanding and paint it looks fresher and colorful.
I love the surprise color when the drawers and top are opened on the desk. The new knobs hint at the color inside.
