I've been eying the wood shims in the lumber department lately and have been loving herringbone pattern for forever now. As luck would have it, I needed some big wall art and thought the shims lent themselves perfectly to create a herringbone pattern. The cost of this art was around $6! Not bad :)
Herringbone pattern wall art. Cost only $6 but has big impact
the wood shims at the lumber store were about $4.
Adding the shims to the foam board to create the pattern
I decided to stain a few of the shims just to add a little more interest.
The frame is just a 1x3, or you can use some molding for a less rustic feel.
