until spring to spray, so we are in mid April, but insane weather pattern. Should I wait until May or mid-May to treat the bushes?

just google it ..it will tell you when to do it...we had them at the last house we owned they killed several big leyland cypress trees. I can't remember all the details but part of it was to pick off as many as you can and burn them.

We can't burn where I live, and we are still having some weather where it drops below freezing. I just don't want them to spread. I was told by garden expert to do it in spring, but I didn't know if it would work if the weather falls again. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Terri, according to Penn State, if you are going to spray for bagworms, it should be in early to mid-June. Surely by then the seasons will have evened out, but I would consult with someone at a good local nursery who is directly acquainted with your particular climate. http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/bagworm

I use soapy water in a spray bottle on some of my plants. Not sure if it will work, but worth a try!!!!

We have these in midsummer in Michigan. My husband cuts them down and burns them with a blow torch on the driveway. You don't need to start a fire, they die instantly with the blow torch. We have been doing this for so long that it has made a big decrease in their population. Now we only have a few bags each year.

You may spray but I would physically remove them and burn. We lost two huge arbs do to these munchers. Cried that day! boo hoo! good luck!
