Looking for a great DIY idea for a Mother's Day gift? Or any kind of gift, really. This hand-painted tote bag is the perfect thing. You can choose any type bag and cutsomize it to create the perfect gift for any occasion (or just for yourself!!)
I wanted to go for a beachy look for the bag I created. I had seen a similar tote online for $150. I made this one for about $11.
I used a tote bag from Through the Country Door, a stencil I created using my Silhouette Cameo, black craft paint, a Sharpie, and paint brushes.
First, I created and cut a stencil out of cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo.
Next, I traced around the stencil using a black Sharpie. This was perfect since I was painting the shape black. If you are using a different color then try to match the color you use to trace with the color paint you will be using.
Next, I filled in the shape using black craft paint. I used a fine-tip brush to paint near the outline, a sponsh brush to fill in the rest of the space, and a coarse, stiff brush to make sure the paint went in all the nooks and crannies of the woven material.
Finally, I added a black and white polka-dot bow. All of my materials came from Michael's except for the tote.
