Natural Waterfalls

For those not living in the mountains, these Colorado streams bring the mountains to the homeowner!
This stream starts up above the drive and meanders down with the driveway serving as a bridge. Filled with aquatic plants, this is early spring and the marsh marigold, a Colorado native, is in full bloom in the foreground. For a more natural looking water feature, make sure to have plenty of aquatic plants and landscaping, just like you would find in a natural stream. This stream empties into a pond filled with koi.
Colorado's moss rock makes for interesting edges on this pondless stream. The rock which is easily found in the Rockies, makes for a wonderful backdrop for the water. Adding wood from the mountains, brings the natural look to this feature.
This pod less water fall starts up by the front patio and meanders down the front yard from under a concrete bridge. The water fall splits as it often does in a natural setting and spills into a basin filled with river rock. The aquatic plants help soften the rocks.
One term that is easily used to describe these falls is: dramatic. The higher the drop, the more sound the water makes! By adding a bit of wood at the top,, this looks just like a stream found in nature with a fallen log topping it.
Water cascading down the stream empties into a pond filled with aquatic plants and water lilies. Notice how the stream changes direction and doesn't flow in a straight line. Much, much more natural looking this way!
For those of you interested in a little less grass mowing, how about bringing a mountain stream into your backyard?
Many people do not realize that water features are beautiful viewed at night besides the day. Underwater lighting brings out the very best in your stream!

Beri Wennihan on Apr 23, 2014I love this : 0 I use to have a beautiful waterfall & pond! Sure do miss it! Was forced to move to an apt comple, boo!!! My son & I dug a 17'x14', with an island in the center & a 4' deep pond @ the bottom so the Koi could survive the cold winters we have here in n/w MO. It was hard work, in a hot July to boot! I sure do miss the beauty & the soothing sound.
