Just big enough to detour my dogs from running staight through a new flower bed. I have some cedar boards and just about any kind of junk laying around house/yard....i have thought about the pallet ideas.

@Valera depending on how big the dogs are will depend on what type of fence you need. If they are small dogs, then just using small fencing will work. If you want to keep the cost down, you can use the top boards of the pallets. Not sure if you or anybody you know is handy, but you can cut the top boards on the pallet at angle's to make it look like picket fencing. Just take each board and cut it. Then take a long board and secure all the pieces to the long board, paint and then put in the ground. It doesn't have to be perfect. Different sizes would look really great. I can see my vision in my head but trying to describe it is a different story. If you pain or stain the wood, just be careful w/ the item you use. You don't want it to be toxic to the dogs or the plants. If you need a further description, I will see if I can draw something up for you and email it.

I wanted to protect my garden from my doggies too. I was thinking about cutting pallets in half because if you leave them the way they are, they can be too tall and you won't be able to see your flowers. You can also make a small gate using your pallets. Just install some hinges. What do you think about something similar to this? : http://www.pinterest.com/pin/175218241725468619/

You could disassemble some pallets. Then 45 cut the tops of the picket. Put two picket together making a point. It would be cute. You can make it 2 or 3ft tall depending on the type of dogs you have.

I need to do the same thing for my raised Strawberry patch. The two little ones are always running wild and tramping in it. I was kinda thinking like the little white fencing stuff they put on the bottom sides of decks. Not sure what it's called but cutting it to about a foot above my bed and attaching it to post on the ends. Let me know what you decide I may need to follow suit!

My husband built lattice fences diagonal to the fence, connected them at the top, we put up chimes, and solar lights fixtures on the top and there isn't enough room for the dog to run so he quit doing it.
