Are they Hopeless?

Once again the Babytoes I thought I could save......did not make it. There were a few that looked healthy enough so I removed them from the pot and removed the blackened bottom. Can they be saved? What are the chances of them taking root?If there is a good chance do I just lay them on top of the dirt?

I have not had any luck unfortunately in propagating individual "toes". Mine have always dried out before the ends calloused. Once calloused, you can stick the ends in a well draining well aerated soil (plenty of perlite and sand) and water much more often then you would an established succulent.
