Garage Sale table, lots of dings, scratches and cracks get a new old makeover! Using a surprising tool and I gave this table a completely new old look.
This table was in solid condition when I bought it, but had no character, and the top was cracked and damaged on the surface. I decided to mix CeCe Caldwells Kissimee Orange and Portland Rose as my color to get a soft coral color.
Using "Gulf Wax" otherwise known as canning wax, (found in the canning section of the grocery store) I rubbed it all over the furniture where I wanted the paint to resist. I painted one coat of my custom color, then waited for the paint to dry completely. When dry, I used a plastic scraping tool to scrape the paint where I had waxed.
I ran the scraping tool along the entire surface, with pressure. The paint will release where the wax was applied.
When I had the extreme chippy look I was going for, I lightly sanded with a 320 grit to smooth the surface and sealed the finish with CeCe Caldwells Clear Wax, then buffed to a perfect softness and glow.

AnnMarie @ Musings of a Vintage Junkie on May 01, 2014I probably have some wax left from when I used to use it making jam! I have been wanting to figure out how to do this so thank you! Pinning!

Christine on May 01, 2014I was wondering if soap or some wax other than paste would be a good resist. You did a lovely job, as usual.
