Classic Cedar Shake Roof Installation in Redondo Beach, California

Chandler's Roofing
by Chandler's Roofing
There are very few communities left in Southern California that allow new wood shake roof installations, but the city of Redondo Beach, California still allows them. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to find just the right client and just the right project! This classic craftsmen style home had its roof torn off and then reinstalled with Class "B" treated shakes. Years ago, this was the roof of choice for Chandler's Roofing as we installed this roofing system on many California Ranch and California bungalow homes here in Southern California. Our guys are true craftsmen when it comes to installing these roofs.

  • We had a client a few years ago that had a great cedar roof done along with siding as well. Our visit to the house was because of leaks. The contractor used copper flashings which we learned is a big mistake with cedar. All the valleys, roof wall, and many kick out flashings were pin holed from the cedar eating away the copper. After thousands of dollars work removing and replacing siding and roof, all is well now with new flashings. Its a shame that these roofs are so expensive. Your job looks great!

A cedar roof like that looks pretty neat to maybe try building. What type of roofing supplies would you need to build this type of roof? I ask that because both my father and I are going to be building a house together and so far we've been having trouble on picking out the style of roof for the home.
