How To Refinish Formica Cabinets & Unique Homemade Chalk Paint Recipe
I was going to rip out this ugly formica cabinet at my parents' house. But decided I'd first see what it would look like if I refinished it. I'm glad I held back because it now looks terrific in their dining room.

Here are the full transformation before and after shots.
The doors are painted and the trim & crown molding are ready to be cut to size.
Painting the trim with my chalk paint formula.
I had a little trouble at first getting the edges of the crown molding to line up.
But I rigged up something to get them to align perfectly.
The cabinet came out far better than I could have anticipated.

Great idea for my bedroom set which is in desperate need of a facelift

I love your ideas, but not so on the chalk paint idea. I've used chalk paint in the past; and within a year, there are knicks and chips coming out of the paint. A year later, it looks horrible. The best paint I have ever used is Setcoat by Faux Effects International - it is cabinetry grade, and the most durable paint on the market - hands down. I will never use anything else. You can only purchase it online through various Faux Effects Intl. vendors... but you will never be sorry over the quality and durability. Juliana www.thefauxchateau.com
