Workbench from pallets...

by Jennifer Linton
I have a ton of pallets I picked up for another project and have a large stack left. I would like to make a workbench for my carport with storage room underneath the work top. My question is, without disassembling them (which is a TON of work for the small 5' person that I am) does anyone have an ideas on how to make this and still have open spacing for storage?

I just drew up an idea that should work fine for intact pallets. I drew up two versions using six and ten full pallets. I'd recommend using Simpson ties to secure them to each other. http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/productImages/300/78/7818f02f-e22d-432f-9d18-7edd3d2da1b3_300.jpg Both L's and Ho De carry them in the lumber department.

I was searching for ideas for the same thing! I'm planning to stand two pallets upright and attach plywood to both ends. I want to make some plywood doors to cover between the pallets for closed storage an then use the gaps between the pallets (on the outside) to hang hooks for tools. I also plan to put casters on the bottom for mobility. My husband and I share a small garage and moveable workspace will make life so much easier! I'll share my ideas once I get them implemented. Good luck and be sure to share you finished project!
