Sounds like sugar ants. I have used 2 different kinds of home remdies and they both work well, but the best one is getting a dry bay leaf. Crumble it over the "hole" where the ants are coming in. The ants don't like the bay leaf and they will not return.
  • Truthfully the big two ways is to keep a clean kitchen and find how they are getting in & seal it - use vinegar or borax to clean all the surfaces they were on or near. If you have a crawlspace or basement - check there as they are also attracted to moisture. With that, black pepper, bay leaves, etc... will help keep them out On my site - http://blog.sls-construction.com/2013/green-ways-deal-pest-problems & here you might want to pull a search on ants

They don't like cinnamon or peppermint oil.
