Sounds like sugar ants. I have used 2 different kinds of home remdies and they both work well, but the best one is getting a dry bay leaf. Crumble it over the "hole" where the ants are coming in. The ants don't like the bay leaf and they will not return.

Truthfully the big two ways is to keep a clean kitchen and find how they are getting in & seal it - use vinegar or borax to clean all the surfaces they were on or near. If you have a crawlspace or basement - check there as they are also attracted to moisture. They don't like cinnamon or peppermint oil.
