Aww, which bedroom will fit our furniture??

Plz help! My spouse and I are relocation from west coast to east coast. The new unit were leasing is similar in square footage to our current place (both under 1000 sq ft), but the layout is weird. We need to figure out which bedroom will work with our furniture. We need to fit a queen size bed w/headboard (7' x 5'), 6-dresser drawer w/mirror (4' x 1.5') and 2 small nightstands (~2' x 1.5'). Based on the layout of both bedrooms, I doubt we can fit our bedroom furniture comfortably in either bedroom. Can anyone offer any insight or layout advice? This new unit were leasing has a quirky layout since it was built in the 1920s. I would appreciate some advice on how to effectively manage our furniture in this space. Spouse and I are at a complete loss. Thanks.

Boy this is a tough one!! The decision here is whether you want an master bath or a big walk in closet. Don't know what that is on the wall separating the two rooms either, is it a structure of some kind? Is it going to be just you and your spouse? If so, this would make a great opportunity to use both rooms as one big suite. The one with the master bath for convenience and make the other bedroom a dressing room/ sitting room, Since it has the bigger closet May be your landlord would let you put bi-fold doors in the door way from the dining area, leading into the hall by the laundry area, Or you could use a tension rod with drapes that has grommets for easy closer and privacy. Hope this might give you some ideas.

Whenever I contemplate a new room that I'm adding on ( I have a 14 room house now, lol), or remodel in general, I measure my furniture and use grid paper to layout the room and the furniture pieces. You may just have to face the fact that this isn't going to work comfortably and perhaps put the dresser in another room and buy a complimentary chest of drawers for your bedroom. I agree with Donna above......This would be more about the bathroom vs. the closet for me, too.

I agree with Donna you need to decide whether you want a bath or closet. Our bedroom is 12x12 and we have a king size bed, 2 nightstands, a taller 5 drawer dresser and a low, wide 6 drawer dresser. There isn't any extra room, just enough to walk around everything.

..Personally, I would rather have a larger closet , vs. the small ' master bath' thing. I have lived several places where I DID NOT have an adjacent MBath and I was fine ..I would rather have had the large closet and more space in which to walk around in :) I would also ' edit' how many pieces of furniture needed in your MBR. I personally like having all my dressers -or something similar -in a closet. Its better if you can do this, dressers take up a LOT of space, or use pieces that have storage, for each beside, and a smaller dresser ? A taller-but small -three drawer dresser that is about 27-29 " in height works well for the bedside. I agree with Lisa, about the decision thing...and if you dont NEED an extra BDRM, perhaps the suggestion of Donna may work out.

Think about alternative uses - maybe, since the living room is closed off, use it as a master? Or, maybe ditch/store your nightstands, and instead, get two low dressers/chests to use as nightstands, so you don't need the other dresser, and put that in the other bedroom. Or put a dresser in a closet. You don't have to spend a ton on new things - hit an estate sale or Restore or thrift shop for older dressers. Between here & pinterest, there are thousands of ideas for making them charming. I've lived in lots of older places, and they always present challenges .

It seems as if Bd 1might be your best choice. I would place the dresser in the closet and remove the mirror (u can always purchase an affordable floor mirror) and just use one nightstand. You can always add a space saving solution like wall shelving or a pretty stool instead of a bulky nightstand (if you really need two nightstands). Good luck!

i recently moved to a smaller home and my bedroom furniture would have fit in the new space but it would have been super crowded. i put my chest of drawers in a spare bedroom i just have my night stand,beaureu(however you spell it) and bed in my room. it feels so spacious. maybe you could do the same. if you need more room how about under the bed storage?

Welcome to the east coast. I would take bedroom #2. Your husband would appreciate the bathroom. Place the bed and nightstands along the wall with the windows and the dresser if it would fit along the wall of the entry.
