How to Remove Veneer From Furniture

I am in the process of decorating the house at the ranch and I want the fine furniture of my dreams but alas, my pocketbook is not able to handle those purchases. So I am buying not so gently used antique furniture and spending the time to bring these lovely old pieces back to life.
This chest of drawers was badly in need of a makeover and the top was covered with veneer that was chipped and could not be saved. It's easier to remove the veneer than you would believe and you can do it without damaging the wood underneath.

After using a household iron and wet towel, the veneer can be removed quite easily
I am loving this finished Chest of Drawers after Veneer was removed

Linda Holland on May 07, 2015OK, you just lay the wet towel on the top, then run iron over? How long? They I see you are lifting with a trowel? Did you do a section at a time? Never done this and need more info for a beginner. Thanks
