Mary Insana on May 09, 2014A matte dark navy or matte black with the hardware cleaned up or painted or sprayed silver. Nothing shiny, it would take away from the details of the pieceHelpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on May 12, 2014Why paint it at all. It looks like it is in good shape and the chevron wood pattern is really lovely. Any scratches, etc. can be touched up with stain, and then oiled.Helpful Reply

Darla on May 12, 2014If you're going to sell it, don't paint it! The original finish is a selling point. It's such a nice piece as is. In a few years, people will get tired of having everything painted white.Helpful Reply

Karen Tanner-Dickerson on May 12, 2014I agree with Darla don't paint it. It is a very unusual piece and will be worth more unpainted.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on May 12, 2014Some of these art deco pieces can be rather pricey so I would be cautious about painting something so unique. If it is in good shape keep it unpainted until you can find out something about it!Helpful Reply

Joanna Stoltzfus on Jun 10, 2014i am just picturing this piece painted in a beautiful mint. i also like the idea of a good stain job or touch up instead of painting it [that is if it is worth a good deal of money]Helpful Reply

Pat769509 on Nov 06, 2014first off what kind of wood is it, if it's tiger oak I would strip the stain that is now on it and stain it a Golden Oak, definetley do not paint it that would take away the integrity of this wonderful piece of furniture.Helpful Reply

Darla on Nov 07, 2014If it's the original finish, I would just clean it and wax it.Helpful Reply

Yvonne Sanders on Nov 07, 2014Oh what an amazing piece. Wish I didn't live so far. I would absolutely paint it with ASCP, old white with dark wax, except for the center chevron piece, I would stain it a touch darker so the wood would show.Helpful Reply

Cherie M on Nov 07, 2014I would restain this secretary, no paint, may be very fine stenciling around drawer pulls, but that's all, The beauty is in the wood! I think it's tiger wood, and this unit is worth some money, just enjoy it.Helpful Reply

Pat769509 on Nov 08, 2014take a drawer into a paint store and have them match the stain that's already on this piece, then stain it the same color I did this with my oak cabinet, I would never paint that. piece of furniture.Helpful Reply

Pat769509 on Jan 21, 2015my suggestion don't paint that secretary I just restained mine I wouldn't even think of painting it, that would take away the integrity of this piece. The stain I would use maybe a golden oak, just take a piece of the piece in like a drawer and experiment, it's not that hard make sure it's a piece that isn't stained like the inside of a drawer and use that as your experiment piece. Stain is the way to go Minwax is a good line of stain then top coat it with a matte finish.Helpful Reply

Cynthia Burns-Mitchell on Jan 25, 2015WHY in world would you want to paint WOOD?! I don't understand why people paint wood furniture. I think that if restored to its original splendor, it would be more beautiful. But, that's just MY opinion. I absolutely LOVE wood furniture in it's natural beauty.Helpful Reply
