My Harlequin Romance - What Would You Do?

My mom gave me this cabinet about 15 years ago. I drove from Memphis to New Orleans with it strapped to the top of my Nissan Pathfinder :) It's had many, many coats of paint and I added more! I've completed the painting, distressing and glazing, but I'm not sure I like how the white came out. What do all of you creative folks think? What would you do with the white trim on this piece? Thanks in advance for your input!
Before.
Painted with homemade chalk paint and taped off for the harlequin design.
Taping off for stripes.
Distressed and the silver glaze is drying.
Sorry for the crappy photos, I'm using my phone and the lighting in that room is impossible! Thanks again for your time!
ETA: This was the inspiration for the color and design. LOVE this sweater :)

How cute! What about painting a small version of the light brown around the trim on the door?

It's such a cute sized cabinet that it will look great in a bedroom. Not sure about paint or decorating choices here, but I know I would put the sweater close by! I'd love to see what you decide to do.

Thank you! This piece actually sits in my Living room near the main bath. We have a very old, small house and it came with hardly any closets, so this is out linen closet. I was thinking, however, I may try to make a matching quilt or throw to put on the couch. Unfortunately I don't own the sweater, lol. Just saw it shopping on e-bay but I never bought it! Lol
  • I think that if you paint the small trim around the design a nice gold color, it would make the whole piece pop. Good luck, I can't wait to see the end result!

I love this idea! I've decided to trim in the light brown/beige that I used to make to stripes. The gold trim will look great! Thank you!

If you paint the white part a medium light gray, it would look great, and complement the center panel.

I agree with Darla on the grey color as white yellow and grey are perfect complimentary colors. Just don't go too dark of a grey for this piece.

Love the inspiration but feel the pattern would have been more effective with perhaps four smaller diamonds instead of one big one. The argyle is a cool look and the colors are pleasing. It is fun to see what inspires us... Sweaters work!

When considering the design I thought of doing many small diamonds, a few larger or one big. Because I am also trying to match current decor in the room I chose the one large. I have a floral rug in that room and I didn't want to make things too busy. Thanks for your input!

I agree with @Z The Argyle pattern is so creative, and you did a great job recreating it on your cabinet. The brown around the trim should really pull the piece together. I would love to see what hardware you will choose for the knob. I'm hoping for glass :-)

The knob is the one originally on the piece, it's the clear glass knob I typically see on price that have key holes. I am planning to reuse it and I think it will stand out well on the brown. Thanks for your input!

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to read and consider my project! I love the idea of adding grey, but grey doesn't really fit my current color scheme in that room. I've decided on the brown trim that Becky suggested and trim the harlequin diamond in gold, as Jilie suggested. These colors will work perfectly with the rug and other decor in my room. I hope to have it all completed this weekend and I will share the results with all of you. You all have been very helpful! Thanks so much!

Oh I see it in the original picture. That is going to look great!
