Ripping Out Carpet

1 Hour
Easy
There are no outlets in our mini mudroom. The closet outlet is up the stairs and around the bend behind our entryway console table - the herringbone one. I grew tired of needing to run an extension cord to the mudroom so I could vacuum the sawdust, dirt, and dust that gets tracked in. So, in my own silent rant, I ripped the wrinkled carpet out and said hello to the possibility of a cement floor indoors.
The carpet is thin and wrinkled. I've tripped on those little ridges going up the stairs before, because I am ultra clumsy like that. (My students know this first hand, so I always ask a student to pass things out, lest I drop them everywhere).
Removing the carpet layer and underlayment was easy. The tack strips are the part I detest, especially because this time, my husband wasn't available to take them out for me. So, I used a flat head screw driver like a lever and "catapulted" the tacky things off the cement.
Then, when the carpet was gone, we had this not so lovely sight. Still, it felt cleaner, and there was an echo, and I knew everything would be okay. Especially because I stenciled the floor and now it looks 100% improved! That post is coming up next!
