When Herbs Take Over

Ever have a plant blow into your yard and think, "Well, aren't you cuuuuute! I'll just let you grow up and see what you become!"? Yeah, well, be careful what you allow to take root in your yard. I've been battling this rose mallow that popped up in my yard when I was very pregnant and too tired to keep tabs on it or worry about it. Now I'm in trouble!
I love herbs and I love mallow - so do my goats and chickens. BUT, it has a deep taproot and reseeds all over the place. This mallow is lovely but I'm not sure its worth the effort it takes to control it!
Stick with more polite herbs like Bee Balm and Oregon Grape Root unless you've got time on your hands.

Douglas Hunt on May 13, 2014This is the first time I have ever heard of someone describing bee balm as polite!

Tessa Zundel on May 13, 2014Compared to mallow, bee balm is a perfect English gentleman. :)
